The Kelly Brothers - God Said He Was Coming (Vee-Jay 220, 1956)

The download of the month October is an early recording by the Kelly Brothers. This group recorded both gospel and secular stuff, and for a small period of time they went under the name of the King Pins, probably because Federal didn't want them to record for two target audiences under the same name.
On this gospel 45, their only one for the Vee-Jay label, the group members (probably) were Offie Reece, Robert Kelly, Curtis Kelly, Andrew Kelly and T.C. Charles Lee. These titles were also released on C.H. Brewer in the mid 1950's, but it is unknown to me if these are the same recordings or if the Vee-Jay 45 features re-recorded versions. No doubt, the C.H. Brewer release (probably 78rpm only) is the group's rarest record.
The Kelly Brothers made their most well-known recordings for the Federal label. For a (rather) complete discography, click here.
